Health equality and equity

Health equality is about the distribution of resources and its impact on outcomes. It’s about everyone having the same. Health equity is thinking about the wider system that drives these outcomes and the changes that need to happen to ensure everyone gets the support they need.

We are committing to ensuring socially excluded groups have a voice. We work to promote equity, amplify diverse voices, and tailor innovations to meet the needs of various populations affected by certain health issues. Collaboration with stakeholders who share this vision is vital for driving transformative and inclusive change.

Leading a healthy life is a human right and inequalities in health are mostly experienced by a range of marginalised and under-represented groups – groups to which the NHS refers as inclusion health groups.

These inequalities perpetuate a cycle of poverty and poor health, leading to many experiencing preventable illness and premature death. This contributes to higher health and social care costs, losses to the economy and society as a whole, and undermines health security as disparities in healthcare access and outcomes can facilitate the spread of infectious diseases and weaken overall public health infrastructure.
