The NHS Innovation Accelerator (NIA) has recently announced the 12 innovators who are joining the award-winning national accelerator in 2021. This launches the sixth year of the NIA, which is an NHS England initiative delivered in partnership with the AHSN Network, hosted at UCLPartners.

This year, the NIA sought evidence-based innovations that address key NHS priorities: supporting the workforce, mental health and COVID-19 response. Each innovation – and its representative Fellow – was selected through a robust, multi-stage assessment process including review by over 100 clinical, patient, AHSN and commercial assessors, an informal review by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), an interview and due diligence process.

Since its launch in 2015, the NIA has supported the uptake and spread of 74 high impact, evidence-based innovations across more than 2,475 NHS sites. Conservative figures from independent evaluations show these NIA innovations save the health and social care system £118m a year.
