Involvement opportunity: Have your say about diabetes and extreme weather
News Sussex Patients and public

Do you live with type 1 or type 2 diabetes?

We would like to hear from you.

University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust and Health Innovation KSS are running an online workshop to learn how very hot and very cold weather affects people with diabetes. Your experiences can help shape future research and improve care for others.

Why is this important?

Recent studies show that:

  • Very hot or very cold weather can increase the risk of low blood sugar in people with type 1 diabetes.
  • People with type 1 and type 2 diabetes are more likely to go to hospital or their GP during hot weather.

We want to understand better how extreme temperatures affect blood sugar levels, health, and day-to-day diabetes management.

We are especially keen to hear from people who:

  • Live in homes that are hard to keep warm or cool
  • Work outside in hot or cold weather
  • Feel strongly affected by temperature changes

Your lived experience matters.

What will happen?

  • You will join one online group discussion (up to two hours).
  • You will talk about your experiences managing diabetes in hot and cold weather.
  • A clinical researcher will share ideas for a future research project.
  • You can give feedback to help shape the study.

You do not need any research experience.

We will create a friendly and supportive space where everyone’s voice is valued.

Payment and Support

  • You will be paid £27.50 per hour for your time.
  • Relevant expenses can also be covered.
  • We want this opportunity to be open to everyone and can discuss any support or adjustments you may need.
