COPD Discharge Bundle Programme Qualitative Report

COPD Discharge Bundle Programme Qualitative Report
News Cardiovascular disease

From 2013 to 2023, Health Innovation KSS ran a large-scale Respiratory Network and the regular calendar highlights were the twice-yearly Respiratory Collaborative events where we would share learning, and support teams in developing quality improvement methods. A focus of the work was related to hospital admissions for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) which at the time, accounted for nearly 50,000 hospital bed days per year in KSS. The aim was to increase the number of patients who received all the elements of the COPD discharge bundle during an acute hospital admission. We have previously presented the impact of this programme of work on patient-related outcomes and now this new qualitative report describes the impact on the clinical teams involved in delivery of care. Overall, there were many positive aspects raised and clinicians describe the significant value of the KSS Respiratory Network’s support.

Ellie Mason, Programme Manager at Health Innovation KSS, said: “This report shares the impact of the KSS COPD Discharge Bundle programme on clinical teams and KSS Respiratory Network members, including their views on the value of the bundle and the support provided by the KSS Respiratory Network. I would like to thank Dr Jo Congleton and Julia Bott for their excellent clinical leadership to the KSS Respiratory Network over many years, as well as our network members for their continued engagement and commitment to improving respiratory care collaboratively, it is great to see the ongoing legacy of our collective work across the region.”
