Net Zero Climate change is the biggest global health threat of the 21st century. At Health Innovation KSS we are working across the system, with innovators, our local integrated care systems (ICSs) and within our own organisation to support the NHS’s approach to climate change and reaching net zero by 2045. This guide, and the unending support of the Health Innovation Network, helps demystify the often intimidating topic of carbon reduction and really does enable SMEs to start their net zero journey. David Parker DXS-Systems The problem Climate change has been identified as the most important health threat of the century, but it is also the greatest opportunity to redefine the social and environmental determinants of health. Net zero refers to achieving a balance between the amount of greenhouse gases produced and the amount removed from the atmosphere, in order to stabilise global warming. The NHS aims to reach net zero by 2045. Our work Supporting innovators on the journey to net zero At Health Innovation KSS, we understand that transitioning to a net zero future can be a complex and daunting process for innovators. To support this crucial journey, we have developed a comprehensive Net Zero Innovator Guide. This guide offers a deep dive into the key aspects of achieving net zero within the NHS, including the procurement timeline, broader social value priorities and practical steps to get started. Our guide is designed to equip innovators with a wealth of resources, empowering them to align their businesses with the NHS’s sustainability goals, whilst also supporting innovators through our innovator hub. Supporting health and care partners We are dedicated to providing ongoing support and guidance to our local health and care partners as they develop and implement their net zero strategies. We collaborate closely with Sustainability Leads across our regional Integrated Care Boards to help navigate and enhance their Green Plan strategies. By facilitating connections with innovators and providing expert insights, we ensure that our partners can successfully integrate sustainability into their operations and meet the NHS’s ambitious net zero objectives. Health Innovation KSS’s commitment to net zero Our commitment to sustainability goes beyond supporting others; we are actively working to align with the NHS’s net zero targets within our own operations. At Health Innovation KSS, we have developed a robust carbon reduction plan to measure, manage and significantly reduce our emissions. Our plan outlines a clear strategy for the coming year, detailing the actions we will take to minimise our carbon footprint and contribute to a healthier, more sustainable future for all. You can find our carbon reduction plan here.
